Fashion Marketing & the Use of Micro Influencers and Independent Creatives with Brands
The fashion industry and its accompanying marketing strategies have evolved throughout time, and continue to do so. From Coco Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent and Versace, to Kate Spade, Rihanna, Isaac Mizrahi and Jason Wu, fashion has become more bold, diverse and readily available. Micro and Macro Influencers sharing their experiences with brands on social media is helping designers break into the fashion industry – and no one knows that better than native Memphian, fashion designer, Prep Curry!
Join us Thursday, June 24, 12pm for a virtual discussion, sponsored by Lensrentals, with Prep Curry of PREPared Fashion about his BIG break with Banana Republic and the role influencers, celebrities and other designers played in his success.
Prep Curry started PREPared Fashion in 2008 and moved to Los Angeles with only $6 to pursue his dream of becoming a world-renowned fashion designer. But he soon found out it would take more than hard work, passion and drive to make it in the cut-through fashion industry. He will discuss his path, his connections and the Banana Republic deal that changed everything!
We will also be inducting our new 2021 - 2023 board. Hope to see you then!
Meet Our Speaker, Prep Curry
Clothing Designer, Fitness Trainer, and Motivational Speaker
Prep Curry, a self-taught fashion creative, took an interest in sewing and fashion design at the age of 24, and after receiving a sewing machine as a birthday gift from his parents, founded PREPared Fashion. His career in fashion began with bowties and pocket squares but soon grew to ties, sweaters, blazers and ascots, which she sold from his apartment in Memphis, TN.
After some success locally, Prep knew he needed a bigger stage if he was to reach a broader audience and become internationally known as a creator and designer. In 2016, he moved to Los Angeles with hopes of a better future, but within eight months, experienced homelessness, theft and other obstacles that would have made him give up. But Prep used these experiences to push him even harder to achieve his dreams.
Prep continued to work on his craft, using each milestone to fuel his persistence, as soon found the likes of Lance Bass, Elise Neal, Brandy, Ray J and Tank in PREPared Fashion. Soon his work would be featured in New York Fashion Week and in Harlem’s Fashion Row in 2019. And in 2021, Prep made history by becoming the first African-American to partner with Banana Republic on the Prep Curry x Banana Republic Collection. With his recent success, Prep looks to continue to build and blaze the trail for other aspiring fashion designers and show them that dreams can become reality.
